Off-road pilot equipment and in particular boots represent a “big” financial item for endurists and crossmans.  It is therefore with a view to helping you make the best choice that we put at your disposal this buying guide with the possibility of comparing the selling prices * of the best-selling boots on the off-road market.

Enduro boots LEATT 5.5

In terms of selection, we bet on mid and high-end boots and we voluntarily put aside the cheapest boots.  From experience, we know that these first price boots, are not really able to protect effectively against shocks and are limited in terms of life. Afterwards, it is of course up to you to see according to your budget. We prefer put a little more money in quality boots rather than taking the risk of riding in dubious quality boots and having to change them too quickly. A good pair of boots should last many seasons if you take care of them.

LEATT Enduro Boot Range

For boots with enduro soles, our favorite is the Leatt GPX 5.5, which we were able to try at the end of 2021 and have been using since then without having to worry about these boots? And the icing on the cake, after a year, they are like new.  Compared to the Alpinestar Tech7, the Leatt GPX are more protective for the foot and ankle and they wear out less quickly at the sole (the sole is nickel after a rolling season).

Advantages of enduro boots with notched soles

Enduro boots with a notched sole are highly prized by enduro enthusiasts for their multiple benefits. Here are some essential elements to take into account:

Adhesion and Traction : The notched soles provide excellent grip on the footrests of the bike as well as on difficult terrain such as mud or rocks when pushing the bike. This feature is especially valuable when you have to get off the bike to push or maneuver on slippery surfaces (hard-enduro top riders use its notched-soled boots).

Comfort and Flexibility : Although sturdy, these boots are designed to be as comfortable as other boots. For example, the Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro are renowned for their flexibility, thus facilitating the handling of the motorcycle controls while offering good ankle support (Motard Adventure).

Protection : These enduro boots offer increased protection thanks to reinforcements to the ankles and shins as well as a solid overall construction. This is crucial to protect your feet and legs from frequent impacts and obstacles on off-road tracks.

Sustainability : The notched soles are generally more durable than the smooth soles, making them ideal for enduro.

In short, enduro boots with a notched sole combine grip, comfort and protection, making them particularly suitable for enduro requirements.

Tips for choosing your motocross or enduro boots

  1. Security and protection : motocross boots must offer protection against injury, with an effective reinforcement system against shocks (at the toes, tibia/peroneous, ankle).  Study reveals that 67% injuries in motocross involve the lower limbs.
  2. Comfort and size: Always choose a size above that of your city shoes, to take into account the wearing of thick socks and possible swelling of the foot in hot weather.
  3. Articulation of the ankle : A good ankle joint is essential to combine protection and flexibility of movement on the bike.
  4. Materials and quality of manufacture: materials such as leather and composites, as well as advanced technologies, guarantee durability, strength and flexibility.
  5. Soles : Interchangeable soles offer a long-term economical solution.
  6. Price : the price of boots varies depending on functionality and quality, but promotions and well compare prices from various merchants can be found to save money.

How to choose the size of your motorcycle cross /enduro boots?

To be comfortable and well protected in your boots, they must not be too big or too small. As we usually wear thicker socks in motocross boots, it is recommended to choose a size above your usual size (the size of your city shoes + 1 size). You really have to take care of this, because given the rigidity of the motocross/enduro boots, if you choose a size too fair, you will not be able to hope that the boots are made at your foot, so you will suffer.

To determine the correct size of your motocross /enduro boots, start by measuring your foot with a soft tape meter, starting from the big toe to the heel. Then refer to the size guide below to choose the right size. It is essential that your foot can move slightly inside the boots while ensuring a safe hold (this is why you choose a size or half a size above). With quality buckle closures, you can then adjust your new boots perfectly.

How to maintain your motocross and enduro boots?

To hope to keep boots cross/enduro in good condition for as long as possible, it must be taken care of by maintaining them.

For this, already think about cleaning them regularly as you do for your motorcycle, especially when you have driven in the mud do not let dry this mud on the boots.

A blow of high pressure cleaner (not too close and without too much emphasis on the seams) to be part of the biggest dirt and other residues. Then brush (or sponge) with soapy water (or another typical dishwasher cleanser/degreaser) by scrubbing vigorously to finish removing the last traces and finish with a good rinse with clear water.

Cleaning Enduro Boots

Once the boots are clean, it is important not to neglect the drying phase, which is essential. To do this, open the loops of your boots to the maximum and turn them over for 10 to 15 minutes to empty most of the water inside. Then put them back in place to allow them to dry completely (in the open air or in a well-ventilated room). To remove moisture from the inside, you can also use newsprint, which will absorb a large part of the water.

But the top to dry the interior perfectly and quickly, it is necessary to use an electric blowing shoe dryer as below (this one is 4 outlets to allow you to dry 2 pairs of boots or your helmet or gloves at the same time!)

After drying, spray the plastics on your boots with a silicone bomb to give them a new sparkle. You can also use WD-40 to spray it on the entire external surface of your boots and on the joints, so that your boots will not squeak!
