Enduro camera: chin fastening or 360°? 2026 Insta360 Camera and Fixation Guide, DJI, GoPro)

End of the GoPro monopoly: Insta360 and DJI shake up everything in enduro?
For years, GoPro was the only option. Today, endurists are turning massively to Insta360 and DJI. Why? Because these brands have solved the biggest problems of off-road video: low light management in the woods thanks to larger sensors and artificial intelligence processing, major progress on algorithmic stabilisation, erasure of the live pole and ease of cropping when the bike shakes a lot.

Mentonniere, visor, helmet or plastron: Which viewing angle (POV) to choose?
Off-road, the viewing angle conditions the feeling of slope and speed. In-vehicle weight remains the number one criterion: a case too heavy on the head strains the neck and makes the helmet toss in the holes. Reserve compact cameras for the helmet and deport heavier models onto the body or motorcycle.
- The chin guard (choice nᵒ 1): the reference angle. It accurately restores the pilot's field of view, keeps the handlebars and arms primed for speed, and respects the relief of climbers.
- Under the visor (the choice in hard enduro): widely used in hard-enduro. The camera is suspended upside down under the visor (image flipping is automatic). It is thus totally protected from low branches and direct projections. Requires a rigid visor to limit vibrations.
- The chest harness: effective angle when descending seated, but unflattering when climbing or standing (the lens often points to the handlebars or tank foam). On the other hand, it is the only support suitable for heavy cameras like the GoPro Mission.
- On the top or side of the helmet: configuration not recommended in undergrowth. It unbalances the helmet or hangs the vegetation and produces a framing either asymmetrical or too high unnatural.
How to securely attach your camera to an enduro helmet?
Almost all cross and enduro helmets (Airoh, Shoei, Fox, Kenny …) have pointed, highly ventilated and ribbed chin guards. Standard flat or curved adhesive patches do not have enough contact surface to hold. Three proven mechanical solutions solve the problem:
1. The clamp fastening on chin strap
The fastest and most versatile solution. A clamp with a powerful spring bites the front structure of the chin band directly.
Advantages: installation in five seconds, immediate assembly/disassembly without leaving glue, compatible with most helmets.
2. The workshop tip: Sugru paste + base 3M
The principle: the pronounced edges of the helmets prevent the adhesive pads from adhering to their entire surface. Without full contact, the vibrations eventually tear off the support.
The dough Sugru (polymerizing malleable resin in rigid rubber) makes it possible to manufacture a custom moulded base: place a ball of dough under your 3M stand, crush the set on the chin or under the visor to fit all reliefs, shave off the excess and allow to polymerise for 24 hours. The contact becomes total and resists the worst high-pressure washes.
3. The chest harness
If you drive with a large camera or refuse any extra weight on the helmet, the harness remains the most secure alternative. Adjust the straps firmly over your protective vest to avoid oscillations when braking.
How to install a 360 camera (Insta360 X5) on your bike?
With a 360 lens, framing is managed in post-production. The challenge is only to place the axis of the invisible pole in the blind spot of the connection of the two lenses:
- Mounting on the helmet (high view / unicorn): fixed to the top of the helmet, the camera disappears to create an overhanging follower plane. Spectacular to analyze its position on the footrests in special, but to be reserved for open areas without low branches.
- Motorcycle mounting (rear loop or handlebars): attach a solid stud ball (such as RAM Mounts or Insta360 reinforced pliers) to the frame or handlebar with a short pole. You get a fixed plan in the third person way TV retransmission.

Essential: protect your lenses and care for your equipment
The domed optics of 360 cameras are extremely vulnerable to pebble projections and rubbing against bushes. Off-road, the installation of Reinforced protective lenses (removable or screwed lens protector) is strongly recommended under penalty of permanently scratching or breaking a lens from the first output (with the projection of pebbles if you drive to several drivers).
