The best enduro and motocross knee pads: Buying Guide 2026

To practiceenduro (hiking, crossing or competition) or Motocross (leisure or competition), the knee protectors are, together with the helmet and boots, the pilot equipment indispensable. Knee pads are your impact protection (stones, handlebars, hard ground) and significantly reduce the traumatic breakage on this exposed joint.
Here we select the best knee pads (shock protection). If you are looking to block the twists (to protect your cruciate ligaments), it is imperative to orient yourself towards our Special Orthotics File.
1 – Enduro kneepads and semi-rigid motocross: the Multipurpose Standard
Among the five models presented below, our “Choice of the Editor” evolves in 2026 with the new Alpinestars SX-1 PLASMA. Successor to the V2, it now integrates the technology Nucleon Plasma (a flexible bio-based material that hardens on impact) at the heart of a semi-rigid chassis. The result? A much higher ventilation and especially increased comfort thanks to a shell that better fits the knee without hard point.
This is the king’s choice. Motocross to ward off stone projections (‘roost’) at high speed, but also in classic enduro. Semi-rigid knee pads differ in their mechanical “hinge”.
Unlike the basic models, they incorporate a quality pivot system on the sides (like the LEATT). The advantage? The shell remains plated on the kneecap even knee bent at 90 ° for example in a rut, where a simple knee pad would leave the knee bare and a possible shock with the handlebars.

2- Soft knee pads: more comfort on the bike
Just like the protective vests, the market has seen the emergence in recent years of protections using intelligent foams (D3O, Rheon, or the new Plasma) which instantly harden at impact.
These new materials bring a huge gain in terms of comfort. The difference is felt especially during intense sessions of Motocross or long outings enduro : there is much less friction and finished the painful pressure points between the knee and the tank. The feeling with the bike is much more natural, you “feel” your machine better.
⁇ The pilot’s opinion: To be honest, I have only been riding with flexible knee pads for 5 years for this unparalleled comfort. Once put on, they are completely forgotten.
However, this does not mean that the Rigid knee pads are to be forgotten, Far from it! They remain higher in three specific cases:
- Protection against puncture: on a stony cross-country terrain, faced with the violent projections of other motorcycles, a plastic hull will deflect a sharp stone better than a foam.
- Sliding: when falling on very hard or abrasive soil, the plastic slips, while the fabric of a soft knee pad can sometimes “hook” the soil.
- Joint guidance unlike for flexes which have no structure, the articulated chassis of the rigids provides a Mechanical Pivot System. Even if it is not an orthosis (which blocks twists), this frame helps to keep the knee in its natural bending axis, which is always “better than nothing” compared to soft ones with a simple fabric sleeve.
These materials are called “viscoelastic”. At rest (pedaling, walking), the molecules are free: the knee pad is soft and comfortable. During a violent impact (fall), the molecules ‘lock’ instantly to become rock-hard and disperse the shock wave.
Present on the news Alpinestars SX-1, on Plasma is Alpinestars’ response to D3O. Its particularity? It offers the same intelligent protection but it is bio-based (USDA Certified) and designed with a specific 3D structure to maximize ventilation, often the weak point of conventional viscoelastic foams.
Why does it change everything?
In hard enduro, when you have to push the bike into a rocker or walk next to it, the flexible knee pad offers total freedom. It is lighter, sticks to the skin and does not “descend” on the tibia.

Care tips to make your knee pads last
Proper maintenance is the assurance of keeping velcros that stick to more than one season.
After the exit, hand wash with warm water (the washing machine takes off the pads!). Drying in the open air, never on the radiator so as not to cook the plastics.
⁇ The pro’s trick: before washing, Always close the velcros on themselvess. This prevents them from clinging everywhere and pulling the fabric out of the foams. And check the seams from time to time: A small quick recovery point can save a knee pad at €100.
What knee pads for the Hard Enduro?
Hybrid models like the Leatt 3DF Hybrid EXT are perfect: soft to walk next to the bike in the technique, but hard on the shin against the big faces.
