2T Enduro oil: The Technical Comparison and Buying Guide 2026

If you drive regularly in 2 Times, you have surely found that the oil budget can quickly climb. But beyond the price, the choice of your lubricant is critical: Bad oil can bind a modern injection pump or stick your exhaust valves in a few outlets.
The aim of this 2025 guide is to go beyond marketing. We will give you the technical keys to understand what is really in your can and why chemistry is important for your engine.

Understanding the technique: differences between synthesis and semi-synthesis
It is often said that a semi-synthesis is enough for the hike. This is a mistake for a modern enduro bike. Here's why:
- The Semi-Synthesis (and Mineral) Trap:
These oils leave combustion residues (calamine). On an enduro bike, these depots are housed in the Exhaust valve mechanism. Result: the valves “stick”, the motorcycle loses power at low rpm and becomes on/off. - The advantage of Ester (100% Summary):
High-end oils (Motul, Ipone, Motorex, etc.) use ‘Ester’ bases. They are polarized molecules that act as magnets on the metal.- Advantage 1: They leave a permanent protective film, even after 1 month of stopping (anti-corrosion).
- Advantage 2: They burn without leaving tar, ensuring that your exhaust valves remain free and clean.
The other secret: The “Point d’Éclair”
In addition to the base (Ester), look at the flash point (ignition temperature):
- High flash point (> 200°C): Extreme protection against heat (scratching, mud, special intensive use), but risk of clogging if you drive slowly (cool hike).
- BAS flash point (< 100°C): Fluidity and absolute cleanliness (Injection TPI / Trial / Hiking), but oil film theoretically less thick at the extreme thermal limit.
Complete Technical Comparison (Freenduro analysis)
We have peeled the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to classify the oils according to these real technical criteria.
(Classification in alphabetical order for total neutrality).

| Putoline MX7 | ~78°C Low | YES | Very fluid, excellent response to accelerator (MRH additive). |
Security Guide: Do not risk the breakage of your engine!
The flash point is directly related to the viscosity (thickness). A high-flashpoint oil is thick, a low-flashpoint oil is fluid. This determines compatibility with your motorcycle:
1. Your motorcycle has a separate lubrication system (KTM TPI, Husqvarna TE, Beta RR, etc.)
Your motorcycle has a fragile electronic pump. It is imperative for him to have a FLUID oil (Flashpoint < 130°C).
- Recommended oils: Motorex, Motul 710, Liqui Moly, Minerva, Castrol...
- Not recommended: Motul 800 or Samurai Ipon (You may get the pump).
2. You make your mix (Sherco Factory, Beta Racing, Cross)
You have no pump constraints. You can look for the maximum protection with heavy oils (> 200°C), especially for difficult conditions (mud, crossing) or competition.
The Top 3 of the Writing (2025)
If you do not have time to read everything, here are our 3 essential 2T oils according to your profile:
- 1. Security (TPI & Beta RR): Motorex Cross Power 2T
It is the oil of origin KTM/Husqvarna. It is certified not to foul injectors and pass into oil pumps without risk. The “zero worry” choice. - 2. Performance (Manual Mix): Motul 800 Factory Line
The legendary oil of Franchising and Competition. It is resistant to extreme overheating thanks to its very high flash point.
Attention: Not recommended for separate lubrication / injection (too thick). - 3. The Good Plan (Polyvalent): Minerva Oil 2TSR
One Oil 100% French synthesis (Made in France) at canon prices. It goes everywhere (separate blending and greasing) and offers protection at the top.
Oil 2T: Understanding Standards (JASO / ISO)
Even if the Point d’Éclair dictates the driving behaviour, the standards guarantee the minimum quality. Don't rely on slogans, look for these two acronyms on the back of the can:
1. The JASO standard (Japanese)
This is the reference. It classifies oils according to their ability to lubricate, but above all not to smoke and not to foul the exhaust.
- JASO FD: The current pinnacle. It guarantees a clean engine and very little smoke. This is what should be targeted in 2025 for hiking and preserving its valves.
- JASO FC: The old standard. Correct, but less efficient on detergency.
2. The ISO (International) standard
ISO has taken over the Japanese tests by adding a more stringent criterion: the cleanliness of the piston after 3 hours of torture.
- ISO-L-EGD: This is the strict equivalent of JASO FD. If your can displays ISO-L-EGD, you have a top quality oil that will limit the scrubbing of the segments.
Detailed analysis: Which oil for your use?
Here is our detailed review of the market references.
Bel-Ray Si-7 (1L)
Normes : TC API / ISO-L-EGD / JASO FD
The Freenduro opinion: An American Ester synthetic oil very famous for its "clean" combustion (Clean Burning). With a moderate flash point (~94°C), it burns well and generates very little residue. Perfect for the hiking and preserve the exhaust valves from premature fouling.
Castrol Power1 Racing 2 T (1L)
Normes : TC API / ISO-L-EGD / JASO FD
The Freenduro opinion: One of the most fluid on the market (~73°C flash point). Result: increased motor nervousness. She is the champion of cleanliness. Ideal for IPT injectors who fear fouling or Trial. On the other hand, for extreme conditions (heavy mud), we prefer a greasier oil.
Samurai Ipon 2T (1L)
Normes : TC API
The Freenduro opinion: The legend with the smell of strawberry. It is a “heavy” oil (>260°C flash point) based on Ester. It offers exceptional protection at very high speeds because the oil film does not break. Attention: Use manual mixing only! Too thick for oil pumps.
Ipone Shogun 2R (1L)
Normes : TC API
The Freenduro opinion: Beware of the trap of words! Ipone on its website indicates “Compatible with carburettor or injector premix lubricating motors”. This may be confusing because it suggests that the Shogun is compatible for IPT/BIT but in reality it just means that this Jul Ipone supports carburettors and other gasoline injectors (by mixing it manually (premix indicated by Ipone)), but NOT oil pumps (separate grease).
Why? Its data sheet reveals a viscosity of 152 mm2/s (it’s very thick!). It is too thick for a TPI or Beta RR pump. Exclusive use: Manual mixing for the competition.
Liqui Moly 2T Synth Offroad (1L)
Normes : TC API / ISO-L-EGD / JASO FD
The Freenduro opinion: The oil officially recommended by Beta Motors. This is the perfect compromise: fairly fluid (flash point ~100°C) for the Beta RR/Xpro electronic pumps, but very protective. If you have a Beta under warranty, it is the choice of tranquility.
Motorex Cross Power 2T (1L)
Normes : TC API / ISO-L-EGD / JASO FD
The Freenduro opinion: Developed with KTM. The absolute reference for injections CFI / BIT. Its specific formulation (flash point ~110°C) prevents fouling of delicate injection sensors. A must for Austrians.
Motul 800 2T Factory Line (1L)
Standard: TC API
The Freenduro opinion: The “blood” of the racing engines. Very high flashpoint (252°C) with Ester Core technology. It does not burn, even if the engine overheats in a stoneworker or mud. Imperative: Manual Mixing Only (2% max). Never put in a separate grease.

Motul 710 vs 800: The match
Often confused, however, they are opposed:
- Motul 710 (Flash point 88°C): 100% Ester synthesis but Fluid. Compatible oil pump for injection type TPI, TBI (KTM / Husqavarna / Gasgas / TM motorcycle /Fantic 300 XE / Rieuju 300Mri) and separate greasing (Beta RR / RR X-pro). It is the versatile oil par excellence, ideal for the hiking.
- Motul 800 (Flash point 252°C): 100% Ester Core Synthesis Thick. Manual mixing only. Reserved for extreme competition (Beta RR Racing / Sherco / Fantic 125 XE / Rieuju 300Mr ). In hiking mode, where the engine is not very solicited it can get dirty
Minerva Oil 2TSR (1L)
Normes : TC API / ISO-L-EGD / JASO FD
The Freenduro opinion: The French challenger. One Oil 100% synthesis with a high flash point (~130°C) which ensures super protection, while remaining compatible with the separate lubrication. The best quality / price ratio of the tray.
Putoline MX7 (1L)
Normes : TC API / JASO FD
The Freenduro opinion: A highly technological oil with the additive MRH. Like Castrol, it is very fluid (~78°C), making it excellent for acceleration response and compatibility with injection systems.
