How to insure a scooter when you already have an enduro bike?

The passion for enduro is usually on weekends: freedom, roads, open spaces, etc. But on weekdays to go to work, the needs are different. You have to be economical and efficient for daily commutes. This is where the scooter comes into play, not as a competitor, but as a perfect complement to your leisure bike.

Adopting a scooter for everyday life is a wise choice for any two-wheeler enthusiast. But what about insurance? Is this an administrative complication? Good news: Your biker status gives you a head start. Far from being a detail, your experience is a real lever to obtain a contract that is simpler, faster and, above all, more advantageous.

The advantages of the biker to ensure a scooter

As an experienced motorcycle driver, you don't start from scratch for ensure your scooter easily. The main advantage you have is your Reduction-Majority Coefficient (RMC), better known as bonus-malus. This bonus, which you have accumulated over the years without loss with your motorcycle, is related to you, the driver, and not to your vehicle. You can therefore claim it immediately for the contract of your scooter, which guarantees you a much more advantageous basic rate than a novice driver. This is the first and most important lever to keep your budget under control.

Your enduro equipment: an asset for your safety and your budget

Another advantage, often underestimated, is that you already own a large part of the mandatory and necessary equipment, which represents a substantial saving. Far from being unsuitable, your enduro equipment can be perfectly suited for scooter use, especially in terms of safety and compliance.

  • Helmet: Although an enduro full-face helmet with its prominent visor may seem less suitable for the city, it remains perfectly homologated and offers a maximum level of protection. There is therefore no need to buy back a helmet immediately.
  • Approved gloves: The obligation to wear CE Certified Motorcycle Gloves is the same for all motorized two-wheelers. Your enduro gloves, designed to withstand abrasion and shock, perform this role perfectly and save you extra expense.
  • Jacket and jacket: A robust enduro jacket, often equipped with elbow and shoulder protection, offers much better safety than a simple windbreaker. You are already effectively protected against shocks and slips.
  • The approved anti-theft device: To benefit from the theft guarantee of your insurance, it is almost always required to use a SRA Certified Mechanical Anti-theft or classified as NF/FFMC. Chances are that the anti-theft device you use for your enduro bike already meets these criteria. Reusing it for your scooter allows you not only to reduce costs, but also to meet your insurer's requirements at no additional cost.

Using your existing equipment is therefore a double gain: you do not incur new expenses and you guarantee a much higher level of protection than the ‘lambda’ scooter user.

Which insurance guarantees to choose for daily use?

Concretely, to insure your scooter, you will have to choose guarantees adapted to an often urban use. In addition to the Civil liability, which is the mandatory legal basis, here are the options to consider:

  • The theft and fire guarantee: Essential for a scooter that regularly parks outdoors, whether at the bottom of your home or at your workplace. Two-wheeler theft in the city is a reality.
  • Pilot equipment guarantee: We think about it for the motorcycle, but we sometimes forget it for the scooter. Yet your equipment has value. This guarantee indemnifies you in case of damage to it following an accident.
  • Assistance 0 km: This is the ultimate comfort guarantee for switching it. A battery failure, a puncture? With this option, you are troubleshooted even at the bottom of your home, without kilometric franchise.

The rider’s trick: group your insurance contracts together!

Here is the most concrete benefit for a biker who wants to insure a second two-wheeler. Your first reflex should be to contact the insurer of your enduro bike. Why? For several reasons:

1. Simplification of procedures: A single contact person who already knows your profile, documents and history. The subscription process will be much faster.

2. The reduction potential: By insuring two vehicles in one place, you become a “best customer”. Do not hesitate to negotiate a commercial gesture. Some insurers offer “Fleet reductions” (from the second vehicle) which can reach 10 to 15 % on one or both of the contracts.

3. Consistency of guarantees: You can often harmonize your contracts, for example by having the same level of warranty for your equipment on both vehicles.

Asking your current insurer for a quote is therefore a winning step: at best, you get an excellent offer and simplify your management; at worst, you have a solid basis for comparison to consult other insurers.

In conclusion, insuring your scooter when you are already a biker is not only simple, but it puts you in a position of strength. By playing your existing bonus, smartly reusing your equipment and using the trick of pooling contracts, you can get quality coverage at a very competitive price. You thus turn an administrative approach into a real opportunity for optimisation.
